some good news, I just read that as of 2015 Vietnam will recognise International Drivers Licenses. please note though that this will only cover you for scooters (from a travel insurance perspective) if your license from home is valid for scooters / motorbikes. also if you hold a Vietnam license (laminated paper) you will have to have it converted to a plastic version starting 2016 though to 2020 depending on your original issue date.
