Hello Manish,

For cost of living information about São Paulo (actually any major Brazilian city) and how to economize see the following topic posting:

If you can find room & board (not common here) it won't come cheaply. You're far better off to rent a small kitchenette / studio apartment and furnish is cheaply , even if you need to do so over time - piece by piece. Of course you'd really need to start with a bed and wardrobe (guarda roupas) for your clothing. Then I'd suggest your kitchen be next on the agenda. You don't necessarily need to buy NEW stuff. There are many shops that sell used furniture and appliances called "Topa Tudo" and they are a great bargain. The only thing you'd really need to purchase NEW would be a mattress.

Regarding eating in São Paulo, you won't have many problems with a vegetarian lifestyle. Most restaurants have vegetarian dishes and you may even find one or two that even specialize in vegetarian dishes. You can probably find one of the largest selections of fruits and vegetables anywhere in the world here in Brazil. See the following posting that will keep you safe when the subject is food:

All Brazilian cities are dangerous, but not much more than any other large tourist destinations. If you follow all of the safety precautions that you should anytime you travel then you'll be fine here too. See the following post:
