Pensioner Visa Broad Steps

My Mom got her Social Security proof of income letter and her FBI criminal report

Are the steps below correct? If not please change them.

1) Get both apostilled (I'm asawre the SS letter might have to go through different steps if it's not a federal doc)?

2) Get both translated (can anyone translate it or do they need a special credential or something)?

3)Get both notarized

4) Take both docs to the local Ecuadorian Consulate with the Application

Anything I'm missing or are they out of order?

In my case (I'm not swearing this is universal), the Ecuadorian consulate in Chicago translated my SS letter. I believe other docs either must or should be translated in Ecuador.

Bob's apparent lack of total certainty is understandable.  The visa procedures are subject to change.  And we good folks here at Expat.com (to my knowledge) ain't EC immigration lawyers.

If I had to go through the process again, I would seek the relevant information -- in writing, which could be an email -- from one of the four following parties, listed in the order of preference, starting with (IMO) the most preferable:

1.  Experienced EC immigration attorney (if you're going to use one)

2.  EC visa specialist (if you're going to use one)

3.  The consulate that was mentioned

4.  The ministry of foreign affairs ("cancilleria") here in Quito, whose website has a contact-us option and an English-language option:  cancilleria.gob.ec

cccmedia in Quito (investment visa holder since February 2014)
