Hello everyone. Thanks for all the great info I have seen on here so far. People seem very friendly so hopefully I can join in.
So then, I have read the forum a fair few times, accepted the job and read the forum some more. Now I am playing the waiting game while trying to research things that I will do while I am in Riyadh. Also, I would like to make some friends (virtual or otherwise) so that the culture shock will be offset by the social network when I arrive. So I thought I should write things that I like and try to find out if others have any idea if there are things suitable for me (or want to offer to let me join in)
Anyway, here goes...
I should (visa permitting) arrive in Riyadh in September. I like/would like to do the following things:
-Racquet sports (I am not very good but I can hit the ball level)
-Snooker (highest break is 28, so that should tell you everything about the level)
-Golf (I have never played on a full size course, but I can hit the ball)
- Football (I was better when I was fitter)
- Gym (to help with football and walking up stairs without dying, that kind of thing)
- Martial arts (I did Judo and boxing as a kid but nothing since - I am 30 - and would like to do something)
- Theatre/drama
- Learn Arabic (well, at least the basics so I don't appear rude)
- Learn Russian
- Travel
I can speak Italian, so would be interested in meeting Italians (or accompanying people to the nice Italian restaurant I read about on here).
I watch football, although I don't support a media-friendly team.
I have no idea where I will live as the employer will tell me when it is sorted out. So, opinions please... Am I going to have a good life or am I going to be disappointed? Does anyone in Riyadh/planning to go to Riyadh have shared interests/hobbies?
Thanks.
