Do I need a visa for staying over 3 months?

Hi all

As of 12th August, I will have been in Bulgaria for 3 months. I keep reading things about you needing to have a temporary residence permit (or D visa). I don't want permanent residence as I'm leaving at the end of September.

Do I need to apply for a temporary permit? If so, how would I do this?

I did call the Bulgaria embassy in London who said they had abolished D visas since joining the EU, but I've read comments online that suggest otherwise!

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

Hi Louise,

three months after your arrival, you have to register your presence with the regional migration directorate:
9000 Варна, ул. Сан Стефано № 1, Phone Nr: 052/652 349 and 652 347. This is not the same as the former D visas, nor is it the same as registering for permanent residence, which would be after five years stay. More information on documents needed, fines etc.: europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/residence/documents-formalities/registering-residence/bulgaria/

Good luck!
