Before deciding to become an expat to the Middle East

Hi All,
I hope you are enjoying your summer!
I would like to know what are the things come across in their mind mostly expats prior to coming to the middle east, especially expats from Europe and USA.
Where do you get the source of your information
Many expats, after arriving to Kuwait and other middle eastern countries, are usually surprised with the modern life style, and civilization, unlike of they have read or heard about.

Your input and interaction will help many new comers.
I am more keen to know the main and major concern that an expat thinks about.
Safety, security, liberation, ..etc?
What were the major disappointments, and what are the blessings on the other side of the coin!

Cheers

I have bought and read the book "Understanding Arabs: A Contemporary Guide to Arab Society" which I can recommend to anyone who is preparing for the jump. Most of the shock came form the Asian expatriate population than the local one really, I guess I should have gotten two books. :)

Hahaha, interesting to know.
But I am more keen to know the main and major concern that an expat thinks about.

I had no particular concerns in that regard, from what I learned is a place that is considered safer than most, and I agree. Actually I have way less concerns here than I had back home.
