Hi,
I have just registered as a self-employed person and have received VAT number and income tax number. I was under impression that these two should be essentially the same with the VAT number being prepended with "MT" in front of the number, but I have received two completely different numbers. I just want to know if this is normal in Malta or was there some sort of mistake?

Why don't you simply ask whichever department issued the numbers?

Income Tax number start from 99
VAT start from MT plus 8 digits
They are different
