4 types of public school in Belgium
1) official language community - in French system you'll see the words "athenee Royal" in the name
2) official communal / provincial - mainly you see "commune" in the name but not always, but the commune's echevins are the governing body or "pouvoir organisateur"
3) free non religious aligned - not too many of these, many are method schools, many charge top-up fees through their AP, eg Decroly, Steiner, Singelijn, des Etoiles, top-up fees are because they are funded less due to their greater freedom so they need to subsidize to pay salaries for example
4) free religious aligned - majority are Catholic, but some are Jewish, Muslim, Protestant, Orthodox

List of 57 free religious aligned secondaries in Brussels region. Of these, I think 54 of them are Catholic, 1 protestant, 1 muslim, 1 jewish. The only effective difference between these schools and the schools in the other 3 types of secondaries is the 4 hours of religion per week MUST be Catholic/Jewish/Protestant/Islam and the other schools you can choose any of these religions and morality (within reason, if no Jewish teacher available for example, it won't happen). So the religious aligned only teach their type of religion, the rest you always get Catholic and morality, protestant, jewish, islam, orthodoxy if a teacher is available.

I ve watched the vacancy lists every year for 7 years since the new procedure started and not once has le verseau filled its 1st year places.

It belongs to the "Ecole de la ville de Bruxelles" network! Check your fundamentals before spreading misleading information. These and two distinctively managed and administrated type of schools! There is often a possibility to enroll in such a school at any age, it is a matter of availability and sometimes connections. As for historical references Jacqmain did not emtirely comply to the latest "decret" (like many other schools) meant to force some students into their walls and drive others out of the school. They were publically blamed for that but thought the blame was worth it in order to keep the quality of their education.

All the international schools in Brussels and outside Brussels are ridiculous they are overpriced and lack the demand of high-quality work. I graduated from the European school of Brussels, completing the European baccelaurate. It is a very nice school!

How lucky that a tiny minority of the children living in the EU get to attend European (first type) schools, paid for not by their parents but by tax payers whose children have no right to such an education. This however is irrelevant to the OP's original request and I know her children chose a local French Belgian school.

that depends greatly it is a true misconception that all students of the European school are children of members of parliament or work in the commission. This is simply not true, coming from a Brazilian background and having moved to Belgium when I was 4 years old. I was not even considered European. Fast forward 12 years later and I was a student at the European school when my father is a chemical engineer working in Sao Paulo and my mother is a Journalist, I can say they managed to secure a place for me in the school with nothing expect for resilience, in a matter of a couple months my mother had visited the school 3-4 times to see if she could speak to the administration. Also, I must include that I was very rebellious when I was young and by no means an exemplary student.

There are no students in English or French sections of eebs unconnected with the institutions or cat 2. In the other sections a tiny minority of cat3 students. Student body well changed. Not accessible to the vast majority of tax payers to Belgium and other EU counties at eebs.
