I personally don't know any Ukranians in the Basel region but I am sure there are some.
One idea, since you obviously speak good English, would be to ask at Centrepoint. If you like it you can join and meet lots of English speaking expats in Basel.
Google "Centrepoint Basel". Centrepoint is located in the Lohnhof in central Basel, not far from the Barfüsserplatz.
"Centrepoint is a unique non-profit organisation run totally by volunteers for expatriates of all nationalities and Swiss living in the Basel region."
