Minimum wages

Is anyone able to clarify what the minimum wage is exactly according to these two links which I found and calculating an
example for someone 18+

http://doi.gov.mt/en/legalnotices/2009/12/LN%20378.pdf
if I take the 152.29 divide by 40 I get an hourly rate of
approximately 3.81 for a part-time whereas on this site
http://www.yesitmatters.com/html/employment_faq.html
the rate is being quoted at 4.75.

Would this also include any insurance and pension that needs to be paid by the employer? Or is the National Insurance
taken as a straight 10% addition, are there any rebates for smes on this?

It looks to me like people who are part time in retail employed before March 12, 2010 got paid more. However, it definitely looks like it has been standardized now.

I would read this as everyone employed after March 12, 2010 makes 3.81 an hour. Those employed before March 12, 2010 might make more hourly.

Oops just read the last part of your question - there are lots of incentives for SMEs in Malta - check Malta Enterprise, also ETC has some good programs (for everyone at least) not sure if they have specific sme assistance programs.

Hi Eagle,

Yes, the ETC does have interesting programs that pay up to 50 % of salaries and part of the NI amounts.

Check out the ETC website whether you can benefit from the criteria.

As far as I know , as an employer, you have to pay half the NI premiums. You don't have to deduct taxes as far as I can see.

With the minimum wage I would take the legal notice as being correct.
Good luck with your enterprises.

Ricky

thank you for those responses, i had a look at some of the websites suggested and was quite helpful.
