The other side of the Algerian postcard

Hi,

As a tourist in a foreign country, very often, we are enchanted with what we discover.

Living abroad is different. It's a rich experience but there are also some difficulties to face.

When people ask me for advice on living abroad, I then tend to say that one should also look at both sides of the postcard.

As an expat in Algeria, how would you describe the two sides of your Algerian postcard?

Thank you for sharing your experience,

Julien

wow!the two sides of the Algerian post card from my point of view.
I dont even know where to start or how to for that matter.
Other than the obvious good side every country présents to
visitors.I think the hardest part thus far has been dealing with the racial card
and some people thinking they are better than black africans.Which really isnt
the case in most instances. And OMG! arabic is no simple language to learn.
The weather was harsh in the beginning but I love it.
The racial card still remains an issue but I must add,Iv met a lovely bunch of people
who have made it an easy ride.
Algeria has grown on me(even wrote it a poem)
123 vive l'algerie!!!!

I have been living in Algiers since 2003...
Positives...Muslim country,weather,discovering a new culture,family values..fresh fruit&veg..
Negatives...poverty,some muslims trying to be western..eg..clothes,speaking French, rubbish all around...
