Any recommendations for a hotel/hostel in safe neighborhood of Cuenca centrally located? Will be there 10-14 nights.

I stayed a few nights at Hostal Monasterio ($20/night and includes breakfast). It's in El Centro. Wasn't awesome but wasn't that bad.

I rent out my extra room for $12/night, very comfortable and clean and in a great location...also offer an optional meal plan for $8/day breakfast and dinner...I am a retired chef, so the meals are not the ordinary Ecuadorian fare....

I stayed at the Hotel Espana and loved it. I was there for nearly a month and when I return to Cuenca I will stay there again. They are in a good location and the staff is really great. Its very clean and breakfast is included. Tell them I sent you and ask for a discount. I don't think it will work, but its worth a try. There web site is hotelespanaonline.com and phone is 072831-351. Ask for Nieves or, and Diana Torres. They are sisters and work at the front desk.
