I have been trying to look for a 1 bedroom flat but there are not many listed online.

welcome to sohar.
sohar house rent cheaper than muscat, but depends on the area.if you are an indian and having kids goes to school, then you must try in sohar souq or al hambar area.where the indian school is.since it is the only school for indians the area is too crowded and rent for 2 bhk minimum 160 to 220. villas around 300 omani rials.not so many agencies available. you make a round and keep your freinds informed your requirement.because most of the land lords dealing directly and not much hassle.
