Confused!

Hi Guys!

I am in my Final year MBA and i have got a job offer in Malaysia, for Business Development role for 5000RM per month... Is this a good package to start my career (i have no prior work experience)?

I am planning to negotiate for 6000RM, but don't know if the recruiter will agree.

What is the average salary in Malaysia for a Business Development Role??

Hi you have been offered 5k as min for employment pass. For someone with no experience you are actually being overpaid so asking for more would be unwise.

5k is a descent salary to start with - just take it and then grow-up while showing your colors. Good Luck.

Note: No harm negotiating higher salary and if anything promise in the future, better get it in writing.....

Ok ... so anything below 5000 is a NO-NO right??

Sure. Thank You!

Congratulations and best of luck to you in the future.  James

Yes, 5k is a very good pay for a fresher to start. Infact overpaid :P

Anyways, do not think much about the salary but do think about the company and the growth if both are good blindly accept it. congratulations for your first job!

All the best!

One small point - I don't know whether you will get a work permit without work experience.....?  It is one of the Immigration requirements and of course age 27 years (23 if IT-related job).

A company applies for permission to offer the job to an expatriate:

The applicant applies for his/her pass to perform the job:

I don't want to be a doom-monger but are you sure this is not a job scam? Unfortunately there are lots of them in Malaysia and they are usually for Business Development, Help Desks or IT Systems Support Technicians. One test is they will ask you for money for processing a visa or accommodation etc.

It would be essential that the company also follow the correct recruitment process whereby you get the immigration clearance that the post can be awarded to you and you will get paperwork allowing you to get an entry visa sponsored by the company before you leave India.

The reason for this is that without that commitment from them (and immigration) they may not intend to get you a work permit unless you say perform by bringing in a certain amount of business in the first month e.g. closing 20% of leads....

Wishing you all the best.

Thank You ! :)

Thank You! :)

How much should i ideally set aside for my monthly expenses? I am a non-vegetarian, don't party... I am assuming 1500-2000RM should be sufficient?

Opinions pls.

This report details salary levels in Malaysia:

Flat sharing is quite usual because of the accommodation costs.  www.ibilik.my is a place to look and see what is available in a particular area.  I would say RM500 per month is a minimum if you are in the suburbs.

COL guides will help you to work out how much your normal daily life costs in Malaysia.  From what I can see Malaysia is 60% more expensive than your current location - so that should help you work out how much more money you will need to live in Malaysia.

Thanks.. Could any one comment on the MSC status? I heard from sources that since this company is operating as part of the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC), it is a good one and can be trusted upon. Second, could anyone comment on the tax schemes for such a company with MSC status?

MSC companies are given that status by the government as they contribute to the economic growth and development of Malaysia under its 2020 Vision Programme goals. ICT via a knowledge-based society is one of the major growth areas.  There are hundreds of MSC companies.

This explains the evolving of the MSC project:

There are no special tax treatment for workers at MSC companies.  It is the same for everyone i.e. 26% if less than 182 days are worked in Malaysia and around 20% if longer i.e. a worker is counted as resident in the latter case. For tax matters, personal allowances and tax bands check out the HASIL.my website.

Something else to take into consideration to work out your budget is whether your contract will include EPF (Employers Provident Fund) contributions.  EPF deductions are 11% for the employee and 13% for the employer. But you do get tax relief on a maximum of RM7k per tax year:
