Dyslexic student.. Advice please??

Hi, we are considering relocating to KL with my husbands employment. We have a 7 year old son so we are researching international schools.. Can anyone help with experience of choosing a school that can meet the needs of a dyslexic child..  Also are learning differences  acknowledged and supported in Malaysia?
Thankyou in anticipation of some help with this matter..

Hi Frosty,

I have PM you with some details. Please check.

Cheers,
Shamala

You would need to contact the major (real) international schools and ask for their opinion. I know that most have teaching assistants but whether they have specialist teaching skills available is another question.

Hi Frosty
I have a child with similar issues. We have schooled him in Alice Smith for primary and then Garden International for his secondary. I also had my other daughter in Mont kiara school. I would say of the established international schools here most have good learning support departments.
Of the 3 schools, dyslexia is supported by the LS dept. I also heard that the Australian school also has a strong LS dept. The department s here tend to have 1 dept head of LS and at least one other subject teacher with specialist support qualifications.
I hope it helps you make your decisions but my advice is to email the LS depts individually after your visit, as to their strengths and experience of helping dyslexic children.
Regards, Jacqueline

Thank you very much for all the help.. Shamala thanks for the inbox.. Really really helpful.. Sounds very impressive.. My research continues.. 😊

Pleasure is mine. Good luck with your search! :)

home schooling can be a great option too.

It does need professional assistance to get the best results for the child.
