BBM on iOS and Android

Just sharing the news (though very late).

The famous BBM (Black Berry Messenger) app is now available for iOS and Android phone. Something I've looking for since years.

It's really making a splash these days but I think it's a bad move for the BlackBerry company itself who's desperately trying to survive now.

Not like we haven't seen all our FB friends suddenly post their pins in the last few days ;)

Whatsapp will now be whatsthat !!

Oh Yes, Thats true !! :)

Something even better @saimans

WhatsApp is now international indirect way to ask away phone numbers ;). "Hey, do you whatsapp?" works for me always :P

Heard that BBM is bettrt in messaging, I never owned a blackberry, but I think i might be getting a BBM pin

I have used both. BBM was one from pioneers in P2P texting; but their features are far behind from what Line, Tango, Viber, WhatsApp etc etc offer today.

1. Your pin is unique, you might change phones, travel different cities, but the pin is yours, it is not bound to your phone number.
2. You can share your pin with people without giving personal information like email or phone number.
3. Random people can't message you and bother you until you approve them in your list.

Well, this is what I read about it and I find it better than the casual stuff

I guess both has got pros and cons !!

Yes, That's true. But:

1- You can do that for other messengers also. For example, I've been travelling through countries in the past period and have been whatsapping from my saudi number. Staying in touch with my mates went like a breeze.

In case you change your phone set, you can carry on with your account.

2- I feel BBM pin is robot-like. Who likes to have pins today like ABC123 that is useable on one single app while we use plenty of apps and dozens of password on our smartphones today?

If having a constant ID that necessary while not disclosing the personal information, we can exchange email addresses. C'mon, most of us have multiple email addresses today; right? And service providers like Google and Yahoo do provide text services over email addresses. You get the same notifications for msgs, you can stay online, you can reply immediately.

3- Spamming is not easy on messengers now. I haven't received any spam yet. The day I get some, I do have blocking features in there.

And there are so many other great things about the evolution of the technology.

1- People have really cut down spending on SMS services. it's free on phone-number-linked services; for example, iMessage is something I use a lot.

2- The landscape of socialisation, standards and people's preferences thereof have changed dramatically in the recent period. See how Candy Crush is making the difference. People are befriending strangers, growing their social circles unlike being wary like they used to be (in general) a few years back.
A good read is here on CNET: http://news.cnet.com/8301-1023_3-576008 … ?ttag=fbwp
This is direction the world is going now. Exchanging pins for one-to-one connection has started looking ridiculous.

3- Oh I forgot to list other monsters of mobile messaging now: Skype, LinkedIn, Facebook etc :)
Of course, there are reasons why Microsoft decided to stop MSN messenger and purchased Skype.
And you don't have to link your phone numbers :)

My main point: Yes BBM is cool; but the world has changed...yet another time.
