Volunteering in Colombo area

I will be in SL for a few months.
I am looking for a way to do some volunteer work - without having to pay for doing it - as so many of the "volunteer in Sri Lanka" websites will have you do.

Any suggestions on finding a legitimate group or place to deal with ?
