Single male shopping

Hi folks.

I move out to Saudi next week! I will be south of Riyadh. (That bit is somewhat irrelevant)

I have read somewhere on this forum that single males are not allowed to shop in the malls alone.  Whist I am not particularly struck n shopping, there is the practical side, where I will need to shop for stuff like clothes and household stuff.

Have I misread, or are there alternatives to this?

Feeling a tad tentative now!  But on the plus side, it will be starting to cool down :-)

Looking forward to your feedback.

Tony

Malls aren't the only places to buy clothes and other household stuff. There are brand showrooms and outlets as well.

Most malls now allow entry to single males to shop around. There is a of male-only mall as well (on Oruba street); though it's under construction yet.

Thanks TLL.

I will get myself on to google maps and have a see how far these types of places are from Al Kharj.  Assuming I can brave the traffic.

Thanks

Tony

No need to worry about that.

It is only weekend nights when the mall is full of families they won't let youngsters get in.

As TLL said, there are a great number of stores, especially in the Olaya area that are not in malls.

You can visit any mall any time of the day* in Riyadh. No issues mate.

A great way for starters who want to explore Riyadh: http://goo.gl/maps/8sbKP

It's basically a customised version of google maps. We've tried to bookmark all important places and put them all together.

Thanks for your replies guys, much appreciated.

Just getting a little nervous about the move now, but looking forward to the challenges ahead!

I just hope, as a single bloke, I won't be as isolated as some people make out in this forum.

Thanks again.

Tony

I guess it's the famous P and B confusion. BE became PE and then P :D

Tony,

You will soon realize when you get here you can do a lot of things that most people can't because of your nationality and the color of your skin.

It's sad, but enjoy the perks bud.

Thanks Alex,

I have had a couple of PM's telling me the same, and I agree, it is sad that it should be like that!  I am sure I will get a better understanding of the place when I arrive on Thursday..

Thanks again.
