Hi my name is samantha i moved to bacau one year ago and would like to know if there are any other english people living in or near bacau? It would be great for myself and my two yr old daughter to socialise with some more english people and find out what you are all doing?

hi Samantha,
i am british also from essex and am thinking of moving in the next year to live in romania with my boyfriend. (he is romanian) we plan to open a business and also get married. i was wondering as you have already done the big move-did u have to apply for any kind of visa/permit etc to reside in romania OR do we just have freedom of movement to live and work there (since the law changed in january and romania became a part of EU)? i have looked online but id like to speak personally to someone who has already made the move from england to romania. any advise would be great. thank you so much

Hi cb1987,

Romania joined the EU seven years ago! You can move here and work here and own a business here without a visa or a permit. The only thing you need to do is register with the authorities within three months of arriving and get a registration certificate. Getting one of those isn't too difficult; they can't refuse you one unless you're wanted by Interpol or something.
