Hello Britt,

Welcome to Expat.com! :)

Welcome to China. Do you go to that university to learn broadcasting?

I live in Beijing right now, so if you need any help, maybe I can offer a hand. Culture, tourist sites, language, you name it.

Thanks :D!

HI Zhaowang,

Thanks very much for getting in touch. I think I will definitely need help with the language!! I have been trying to learn from home but finding it very difficult. I hope when I am in Beijing it will be easier.

I am studying New Media at CUC.

Hi Britt,
How so? What makes you think living in China for 2 years is hard? The language barrier or what? If that's what you are worrying, I would like to offer a hand when possible.

Hi. I've been in Beijing for a year now. Since a lot of my friends left China, I am looking to make new ones. I can show you around, maybe accompany you to some of the tourist sites I haven't seen yet or just grab a beer after work.
Welcome to China!

Britt hi

I am not female and don't think I can be described as young.

However, I am also from London also dynamic and my office is very near your university.

If you have some free time and would like to help me with the weekly events please contact me.

Hi Colin,

Hi Britt,

I'm moving to Beijing soon to teach English. Very anxious. You still in Chaoyang? I'm pretty sure that's where the school I'll be teaching at is. I'll be moving next month. So scared lol.
I'm 28, from London and I really hope I'll meet people who I can socialise with. Do you like it there?

Hey!! Yer I really love it. The district is hige literally most of the East of the city but you should let me know when you arrive & maybe we can meet up & i can show u around? Do u speak mandarin? Have u been to china before?

woogy85  hi,

I'm also from London and I've been in Beijing since Jan 2003 (China 1998)

I have stayed out of choice. It's an exciting place to be and I am sure that you will have a great time.

Two important things to remember keep an open mind and don't expect everything to be the same as at home even the Chinese food tastes different from the food in London's Chinese restaurants.

If you want to meet people then every Tuesday I organise a get-together/Meet-up/Networking/ what ever you want to call it.

Hi Britt, I live and work here in education, although south of Shanghai. Like you, was having big issues on what to take with me. I miss so much of my personal things. The things that remind of home. I am from Cornwall, and miss the surf. lol.. . China is geared for women, clothes, shoes, handbags, so you will be fine for outfits and such girly things. Sad for us guys tho. I need a dose of Maplins.. My driving licence here is a waste of time, so i miss driving, thought it would be great to take a ride out on my motorbike. Can't even do that. grrrrr. If you need any advice, do not hesitate to ask, getting quite used to how things tick here in China. ohhh and make sure your phone has hangping app, and an offline chineese to english translator. Google is blocked here along with FB. set up a VPN before you leave blighty.

Quick comment about clothing ... As a rule of thumb the Chinese figure is far more slender than that of Western people. If you are a UK S or M you will be fine. If you are a UK XL or above it might not be that easy to find off the shelf clothes that fit

May I ask what are the best pub or disc to goto in north west beijing.
