Places to visit in Wellington

Hi,

For the ones living in Wellington, what would you suggest to discover the region?

When you have friends or family visiting you, where do you go with them? What are the must-see places in Wellington, the tourist sites?

How to visit the region in an original way? Any unusual or unknown place to recommend?

What would you suggest for a couple of days of for a week of holidays in Wellington?

Thank you in advance for participating ;)

Julie

New Zealanders spend a lot of time at each other's home, as they entertain in their beautiful gardens with games and barbeques. They visit beaches such as that, 45minutes north on the Kapiti Coast. Families go out to Te Papa, eat down the waterfront, visit the Art Gallary downtown, in Island Bay and in Lower Hutt. Families enjoy hiking in the hills south of Eastbourne or having lunch over at Eastbourne. They enjoy going to China town for delicous Yum Cha and taking drives over the Rumatakas to the Wairapapa. Families enjoy eating out in Graytown and doing lunch in the Vineyards in Martinbourgh. Other places families enjoy is driving round the bays in Mana, that connects the road over to the Hutt. Kids love going to Staglands in the Hutt. There is a road ther that connects through to the Kapiti Coast..it is breath-taking but has a lot of corners. Families enjoy driving up to Palmerston North, visitng the breath-taking Espanade, walking along the Manawatu river and visiting the secret water holes (only kiwis know about) to go swimming. There are loads of trekking routes round Otaki and Palmerston North. In Wellington families enjoy driving round the inner city bays, stopping off to swim in Kaoriri pools, exploring the sea shores of Plimmerton and browsing through their book shops.

I hope that gives you some help.
