Mauritian citizenship

Hi all,

Just a quick question for people who might be 'in the know'. My husband is Mauritian and I am British, but we live In the Middle East. We are planning to have a baby (more than likely where we live) does this have any implications for the child having the right to apply for Mauritian Citizenship/Passport. I know there are funny rules for the UK when giving birth outside of the UK and passing down citizenship by descent, so I just don't want any surprises as hubby is keen to return home one day.

TIA

Hi Fayevourite,

Welcome to Expat.com! :)

I hope other members will share their experiences with you very soon.

All the best,
Christine

As far as I know the child can get a Mauritian citizenship. Can't help with details though.

Well this is what I found "BY DESCENT
A person born outside Mauritius is a citizen of Mauritius under section 20(3) and 23 of the Constitution if either of his parents is a citizen of Mauritius by birth ."
