It's 2013 updates&life@Princess Nora Uni & life for girls in Riyadh

 Am not a newbie to the golden sands of Arabia but am toying with the idea of working in Saudi to save some money.

I would enjoy hearing what life is life is like for single females in Riyadh. Do I always have to wear the darth vadar gear ?  Am I doomed to be single ?   Is there an underground party network ?
Shopping, is it really amazing ?   Food ..fresh veggies ??    And everything else that comes to mind when you think of single women working in Riyadh.

Princess Nora Uni...from the outside it looks modern, with great staff accommodation...is this for real?  What are the working conditions like ?  How often can I leave Saudi for breaks to Thailand on holidays etc ?  What kind of money range do they offer Western expats ?
and of course anything else you would like to add...no matter how small....

All feedback that is current is deeply appreciated.

:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::D:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:

you wear the "darth vader" gear when you want to cosplay.

but round here you are asked to dress in the Abaya in respect to the locals and their traditions.

if you stay here long enough you start to build a social life with friends and groups out side the area of work and housing compounds. so nay, ye arth noteth doomed te be single.

food and veggies are available for every one, including non saudies. Princess noura is a state of the art infrastructure but if you are not new to the sands then you know that has nothing to do with the mentality of business here.

i hope other people whom haveth more details come to thy aid.

Salman Shakebeard.

shokran and no offence ment by referring to Darth Vadar...
as you might imagine...

appreciate the insights...i do know the mentality and moderns building are not connected to modern thinkng...i've lived in Dubai too..

non taken, i was only attempting to be funny, it never works though.

so did you get an offer yet?

Ps:

I'm not arab :P

yes...but since the whole process takes months and months..i have lots of time to research before i get on the jumbo....am not crazy about the idea. But it's for long term savings...

And please search the forum ... SO much has been said about being a single Western woman here I'm sure you'll find answers to your questions.

PS.  If you're familiar with Saudi, you know it's nothing like Dubai lol

yes Alleycat..but am also looking for UPDATED information. Seems a lot of the info is a bit old.
And new people may be on the board and have something to say..so don't dismiss my query just yet.

As for PNU ??? Still waiting to hear how the new place and trains are..who do you HAVE to live with etc...   Am not seeing many specifics yet even trolling through the old posts.

:cool::cool::D:cool::cool::cool::cool:

UPDATED? In KSA? Regarding women?  lol  I think we're going to be stuck wearing abayas, not being able to drive, etc. etc., for a long, long time.

Only updates seem to be regarding iqamas, visas, etc.  But even then, a law is made and then discarded a few months later, so back to same old.

But regarding shopping, from an American woman's point of view, I don't think it's any better than a really *upscale* mall in the US and definitely, on average, much more expensive.

You want to experience an eye-popping shopping experience?  Be sure to hit Dubai.  The malls were fancier than Vegas casinos!!!

PS. OOps.. you've been to Dubai, so Saudi shopping won't impress you.

There's always Dave's ESL Cafe's Saudi job discussion forum for fresh info on PNU.

-mostly for foreign women you can be ok without covering the hair and face
-there is a very active Stand up comedy shows around ( you might need a hookup for tickets and travel)
-you will easily find some westerners to be friends with (since some time ago PNU fired all Saudi female teachers because they wanted foreign teachers)
-Supermarkets provide most of the necessities (try Altamimi for imported stuff)
-malls are not all that good here but for some reason people are fine with them.
_I have a cousin that is learning translation there, and she like it.
- your travel will depend on the kind of visa you get (have them provide you with one that is open travel)
-practice common sense when interacting with people.
-999 for police
-998 fire department
-997 red crescent (ambulance)
-Altahlya street is where most of the best coffee shops, and stuff are. There is a party essentials store there that sells Stand up comedy tickets (if you are an american check with your embassy I've seen some of them in the shows I went too)
-I hope you have fun while you stay here
- PM me for any thing you want
