Hi there,

Have a look at the link below and I reckon it will answer to most of your questions:

Hi asking,

welcome to the forum.

Why you will need to register for residency?:

1) No residency - no school for your kids.

2) No residency - no bank account.

3) No residency - you can't work in Malta ( as a tourist you can't work!)

4) No work - no free health insurance.

There are probably more reasons .........

Basically if you don't register for residency you are just a .....tourist and stay a resident of Poland.

Ricky

Why do you need an ID card ?

Its actually an eResidence document now, but the reason you need it if you live in Malta is that its the law.

Maybe it was not clear :)

I will work, and I will apply for residency.
But I know it takes some time now.
I am thinking what can I do on beginning, before I get residency.
- Can I and my family use free health insurance in Malta? (My EHIC will be valid only one month). (I will work in Malta from June). Can I go free to GP in e.g. August?

your EHIC (actually its an E111 now) is invalid if you are resident - its for tourists only. If you are working you can see a doctor for free at a polyclinic or hospital

Hi Ricky,
hope you can answer to some of my questions as well...
Can I apply for residency although I have not been there for 3 months?
If I am not resident, I can't work. Does it mean that I can't find a job for... months?!?!? It sounds crazy!
I will be coming to Malta in 2 weeks and I will look for a job. Won't I be employed?
Thanks in advance for your time.
If you prefer you can email me to: [email protected]
Thanks again,
Silvia

Hi Silvia,

as soon as you intend to stay in Malta you apply for residency. Until then you are a tourist.

OF course you can look for and find work! As soon as you start working in Malta you register as employed and for residency.

Really no problem if you are an EU citizen.

Just make sure that you are covered by health insurance (EHIC card might not be good enough - depends!)

Cheers
Ricky

as soon as you find work and are paying SSC contributions you wil be covered for health care - just make sure that happens before your appointment.
