American Woman 38 Needs Help Resettling in Barcelona

Hi,

I just inherited a small amount of money and am wondering how much it would cost me per month to live in Barcelona, as I have always loved that city.

I require a HOUSE, not an apartment, because I have three dogs. I want to rent NOT BUY.

I am of modest tastes and not a big spender.  I do not want to share. Just a small clean house in a "safe" area.

Not counting transportation, how much do I need per month to live a nice life, eating out maybe four times a week, no drinking or smoking.  Just rent, food, untilites - the usual.  I am not frugal or cheap, but I am not a big spender either.  Don't figure in any designer anything, because I'm not into that.

Thanks.

Hi,

I could find a house in a town near Barcelona just 20 kms.

Hola, greetings.  IŽm an Englishman living here in Barcelona.  I have my own house on top of the mountain that overlooks Barcelona.  Feel free to send me a private message explaining more about what you are looking for & IŽll write back to you with some useful options.

Hello,

Glad you are interested in my home town city. A small nice house in Barcelona is a luxury in itself. Barcelona is small city geographically limited by the sea and the mountains, so its has grown vertically. So a house with a small garden won't be cheap, say more than 1300 eu, minimum. It also depends where you want this house. If you want more info, contact me privately and I'll will help you. I'm a Spanish teacher and a relocation specialist.

Kind regards

HI, there are websites that show you buy and rent prices. If you can read Spanish , one of these websites is

segundamano.es

As far as living expenses , food about 200-300 euros , health insurance 100 euros  , utilities including internet 150 euros ,
eating out that would depend , but a decent dinner meal with wine 40-50 euros and there is always the discretionary that you can set your own budget. I am not living in Barcelona , but I have an apartment and stay a week at a time. These numbers would be pretty accurate as this is what I currently pay. Some things are cheaper than Los Angeles , but others not

Hi

Having lived and rented in Barcelona previously and about to return in a few days again I can give you a little info, house wise in the city centre you may struggle to find anything, but you can rent cheap houses if you are willing to live a little way out of the city, for example you can get much more for your money in Sabadell or Terrassa, but it means you are at least half an hour away from Barcelona by train.

In regards to eating out I know someone mentioned previously 40-50 euros including wine, however that would be a high end meal in somewhere populated by tourists, try to avoid eating anywhere on La ramblas as it is all over priced, the same goes for restaurants around Placa Catalunya and normally restaurants located close to metro exits.

If you walk around a little and look for the not so well known restaurants you can eat well for much cheaper, for example in Sagrada Familia there is a restaurant about 5 streets up and 2 or 3 streets across from the metro owned by Paraguayans, a friend and I once dined there having a paraguayan mixed grill each (a couple of types of sausage, a small steak, something that was similar to black pudding and some other bits with salad) and a beer each, the price for the two of us.....12 euros that's for both of us not each!

You can live very well in Barcelona on not much money if you become familiar with the city, also I know it's junk food and not to everyone's taste, but I have to say telepizza pizzas I always found much nicer than dominos pizzas over here in Engand so that's another cheap food option when you don't feel like cooking! I don't know if this has been much use to you, I just realised how hungry I am while writing and may have got sidetracked talking about food, but good luck in your house hunt.
