If you have a smartphone you can use Google Images to quickly find a photo of what you are looking for.
Many times when I am looking for something that either I am saying it wrong or don't know the correct way to say in Vietnamese, I show them a picture then they know exactly what I want.
This also works well on the street to ask where you can buy something.

Umm...if he can't point to his hair and hold his finger and thumb an inch or so apart and say cut this long then maybe he can't us smartphone. (Joking)
