Istanbul or Izmir?

Dear All those living in Turkey, expats and native citizens.
I made a decision to immigrate in Turkey with my mother, and at the moment i can't decide to which city to move - i'm choosing between Istanbul and Izmir.
I inderstand that some of you are native citizens of one of these cities but i would really appreciate if all of you could give a rational and objective advise to one of these cities based on the real facts e.t.c.
I can't decide because:
- Istanbul is bigger and more multicultural and for me as for a foreigner it would be esier to find a job there - the bigger city the bigger opportunities
- at the same time the cost of living in Izmir is cheaper
- the climate in Izmir is softer and one of the pluses for me is that i have some good old friends living there that would make my adaptation to the new life easier but on the other hand friends won't give me job e.t.c. I really have to decide rationally but i can't...
I love both cities much altough they are quite different.
I want a place where i would feel myself at home faster and won't be like an outsider... Hope to receive some useful opinions from you guys

Thanks

-You will find job easily in istanbul Laleli area where most of the bussiness in runned in russian language thus workers are mostly from russian speaking countries.   So you may share acommodation with them if you will stay single.
-There are daily buses and flights to Georgia .
-I don't think expenses in izmir will be much different than Istanbul.
These are the pluses of Istanbul . The only negative thing is that it will be crowded  by 1 person more :)

Istanbul is far more better than Izmir compared to history, beauty. Climate is also nice. For making business the economic capital is here. But Izmir is also very nice city.

If your purpose is to find a good job and opportunities, then answer is Istanbul
If you're retired wanna live in a nice quieter city and can cover your costs of living, then answer is Izmir.

Good Luck.

İzmir is like europe. İstanbul is ****

I did not visit Izmir but I have the intention to retire in Turkey, I will visit both cities and Antalya also and then decide, for sure Istanbul is a very busy city but I beleive that there are quiet nice suburbs.

Hello,
Is there any one who can help me?
I'm looking for an English language teaching position in Turkey.
I am an English teacher, observer and TTC instructor.
I have been teaching English for more than 15 years.
I got my master degree in field of translation of English language.
I also have some managerial experiences.

Please do yourself a favor and google video Antalya and Kusadasi. We have different goals for being in Turkey but I have done hundreds of hours research and watched hundreds of hours of videos trying to decide which city I wanted to live in.

For me, Antalya is much more exciting but you give up a few things in living conditions. Housing is cheaper in Kusadasi, weather is so much better. Not as hot and not as humid. They are both tourists towns, as the business owners here depend on tourist traffic to survive. The gov. here provides better security and both cities are immaculately clean.

The people here are super friendly and helpful.

If you ever come to consider Kusadasi, I was very fortunate to find an incredible lawyer and real-estate broker who made my transition into to Turkey seamless. And both very affordable I might add. I would be very happy to give you there contact numbers if you ever are interested.

I wish you good luck and if there is anything I can help you with don't hesitate to ask.

Dennis

Just want to add one more thing. Even though I mentioned housing is cheaper does not mean you can't find a place that you will become totally comfortable with. As an example in my case I found a three bedroom condo in a community situation with 24/7 security, completely furnished, two full baths, large living room and dining room areas, separate large kitchen with one huge balcony and balconies off the kitchen and the bedrooms, overlooking the Aegean Sea to enjoy the view of the city below and the beautiful sunrises and sunsets. I am a chef and love to entertain and can easily have 20 to 30 people over very comfortably. Olympic sized pool, basketball courts, hand ball courts and large children's play area. This condo in the States would easily cost $3000 to $4000 USD per month. Here in Kusadasi my rental cost is a mere $520.00/month. Utilities around $100/month max.

I hope this gives you a better insight as to Kusadasi living.
