Any retired military folks residing in Ecuador??

As previously posted I am in the National Guard and will be retiring this year. I have a VA service connected disability and will be using this for my pensioners visa. Does anyone else have any insight on how this works?

I won't collect my full military retirement for 6 more years, but my VA disability payment does cover the required amount for a visa.

How many ex military expats do we have in Ecuador?

Thanks

There are many military expats living in Ecuador.

I have a very good friend in Manta who is my go-to person when someone on the Expatexchange.com (where I am a moderator) asks about VA benefits.  Send me a Private message and I will give you his email address.

I am not sure I understand the question in that your type of retirement is immaterial, as long as you have the required income. The advantage you will have, from my understanding, is that you can have the VA automatically send any medicines you need to a U.S. address, and they can be forwarded to Ecuador. Will you also have TriCare for the six years you wait for military retirement? Medicare (and I think VA coverage, but check) will not apply to medical costs here, but TriCare will.

I retired from the military on a disability and also receive SS; so that's one military retiree. But, I live in Loja and really don't know any other Expats, so I have no idea how many retired military are in Ecuador. Knowing how much military families travel, and the breadth of their experience with foreign countries, I can imagine there are quite a few that have found this lovely country.

You mean American Military don't you? If you mean ANY military, I retired from Indian Navy as a Captain in 2006 and am in Quito.

I'm ex Army and Navy, Didn't retire but served.  I'll be checking a couple of cities out in Nov with the wife.  Targeting 19 months and counting.

Yes, I was speaking specifically to r&p406 about the American Military because one of my points had to do with the medial coverage that comes with such a retirement. Of course, I am happy to hear about all the other military retirees. No doubt, like most, you have some very interesting stories to tell. If we ever meet, I would love to hear them. I served in the submarine service and do have a few stories of my own. But, then I am told I would have to kill you if I told you (sorry, that is possibly a joke only americans would laugh at).

LOL...No amigo, every lover of Rowan Atkinson and James Bond would smile! Indeed, even I have a few stories that I would have to kill you for...after all I was an Anti-submarine specialist! But I guess a few bottles of beer would do as well. Hit me up if you are in Quito sometime.

When the world seems like a small place, that's interesting. When the hunted and the hunter can contemplate friendship, that's amazing. Undoubtedly, a sense of humor makes the world a better place. Hopefully, our paths will cross in the future.

Will look forward to it buddy. Anyone that held his own in a battle is a special person...and we were never at war with America in any case!
