Looking to rent a room or small apartment in a nice area of La Reunion

Could you offer any advise on the best areas to live in La Reunion I am English, looking for work, looking to learn French and make a new life. I here that Saint Gille or Saint Denis are good place's what do you think? I arrive 28th December so would like to have a place first week of january if possible.

I think it really depends on what you want to do professionally, and how much you like to drive.
St Gilles is a good place for the beach and nightlife, but that's about it IMO.
You may well find you choose one place when you first arrive but end up settling elsewhere once you've got a feel for the island.
I'd also suggest you check out the 'immobilier' ads at clicanoo.re/Sommaire-annonces.html (all in French I'm afraid).
