Hello people!
I am new to Doha and was wondering what are some of the new year events planned for Doha this year? Been living in Sydney and Dubai previously, are there similar events in Doha too? I understand as per Qatar Labor Law, new years is a working day 
, so I am not sure how big it is in here??

There are usually events happening in the hotels. If you get the TimeOut Doha magazine from Carrefour it will tell you what the plans are for New Year.

I will be out of the country, there aren't a lot of stuff happening for the new years here
