Relocating to Gibraltar on Thursday

Hi,

I'm moving to Gibraltar this week to start a job and was just wondering if anyone could offer some advice on a few things.

What rate of tax would I be paying?

Do I have to register with doctors, dentists, etc?

What are the chances of finding a studio/1 bedroom place which includes bills for less than £500pm?

I'd also be looking at the possibilty of offering blues/rock guitar lessons to beginners, if there was an interest in it, so is that something that would have a place there or not?

Thanks.
:)

Hi pyjm84

Tax   http://www.gibraltar.gov.gi/taxation

Accommodation, are you intending to live in Gibraltar?  If so it's expensive. The cheapest I have personally seen are at present advertised on the " Customer Notice Board" in Morrisons, check it out when you arrive, it's open everyday.

Gibraltar runs a NHS type health service.
To register you require:- http://www.gha.gi/httpdocs/Primcare_Registration.html

More info here:- http://www.gha.gi/httpdocs/index.htm

Dentists are private.

PS why the Italian flag?

Cheers for the info!

Yeah, I'm initially planning on living in Gibraltar if I can find somewhere. Shall check out the Morrisons boards, but as I wouldn't mind cycling to work I think I'll eventually move into Spain for better value, possibly Alcaidesa.

The Italian flag is because I registered on here quite a few months ago when I had dreams of moving to Florence [still do]. :D

Check out http://www.vasquez-consulting.com/taxcalc.htm for a tax calculator.

Yeah, living accomodation in Gib is expensive, Spain is cheaper but I'd stay clear of La Linea just over the border, down the coast is better. I'm a Duquesa and that's nice.. and it's cheap!

Where are you working? ... drop me a line if you want a friendly face in the area!

Cheers! :)

I'll be working at a restaurant in Queensway Quay.

Another thing I was wondering is whether there's a road cycling club?

Presumably, if there is, they head into Spain for rides since circling on a 3sq mile area of land would definitely get quite dull. :D

Yeah I often see cycling up and down the main road around Manilva... they seem to be out there all the time ... one thing to bare in mind ... if you need to get over the border (gib/Spain) with a bike then you still have to queue ... you cant walk it across ... a real pain sometimes .. but that's Gib life!

Good news! [about the cycling in general, not the border hassle]

Would people frown upon me for cycling straight to the front of the queue? :D

You'd most likely be hung! ... or the Border guards would send you to the back

Haha, that's very disappointing.
