Visa Type

My wife and I are hoping to relocate to Cuenca for a year or two with our children and I am having a difficult time finding out what the best way to get a visa is.  We hope to volunteer and maybe work part time while there, but we want to feel this out once we get there.
Any tips from those of you who have done this?
Thank you
Craig

You can stay for 90 days without any type of visa if you just want to check the place out and can easily get a 6 month tourist visa at any Ecuadorian consul, though it does take a bit of paperwork. Good luck and have fun! Ecuador is great!

Thanks Steve,
Do you know how easy t is to stay for a year?  Can you extend the 6 month visa?
THanks
Craig

As I understand the rules you can extend from three months to six months.  Then you have to wait a year till you return to Ecuador.  I have te "retired" visa (pensionado) and am not sure about all the other visas.  In Cuenca you can go to the visa office and inquire.

Nards on this blog has a better grasp than I about the types of visas.  Might want to reach out to him.

Hope this helps some.
