Banking on the road

Hello Everyone!  My husband and I will be moving to Caulker Caye for a year then moving on to a new place (Cuba?) for a year.  We would like to keep a US bank for retirement deposits, but we don't want to have to pay all the foreign exchange fees...what can we do?  TY for all the info!

Get an ATM card that has no international fees. Capitol One and Schwab are two that do just that. You can then withdraw from any Belize ATM fee free.

Be aware that depending on the Belize bank ATM you use, there are daily withdrawal limits, usually about $250-275 usd per day.

This will eliminate the need for a local bank account, which given the short amount of time you will be living here, would save you a lot of time and trouble trying to get one.

However, if you'd like a local account, credit union accounts are pretty easy to open - not sure if they even have one on Caye Caulker though.
