Retire to Israel?

Lifelong American, strong Jewish heritage, secular, not religious, considering moving to Israel in 2 or 3 years upon retirement. General thoughts?  Am I crazy to move to Israel?  Where to live in Israel?  Costs? Healthcare? Culture shock?
Any and all thoughts welcome.

Hello Asher.

Welcome to the forum! :)

In meantime, you can read the other threads on the Israel forum. It can help. :)

Thank you,
Aurélie

Well, the obvious question is, how many times have you visited Israel, and how long did you stay?

If you are truly secular, avoid known religious areas.

Healthcare is OK and universal, but virtually no PRIVATE healthcare, so you're stuck with the HMO's operating within a state system.

I'm concerned that your reference to culture shock implies that you don't know Israel. Before making a final decision you need to live here a minimum of six moths.

Finally, the classic joke about how to make is small fortune in Israel is to bring a large one is, regretfully, frequently true!

Good luck!
