STC FTTH Fibre Optic Broadband Internet

STC offers a great looking internet service at 100 Mbps, Fibre To The Home, or FTTH - stc.com.sa/cws/portal/en/individual/ind-internet/ind-int-start/ind-intr-str-intrntathome/ind-intrnt-athome-FTTH.

Has anybody tried this? What are actual speeds like? Is it available in Dhahran?

What comparable fast internet connection is available from the competitors?

By the way, do you really think it is not necessary to get a satellite internet connection in Saudi? What technologies do you need to get everything going on a landline?

Thank you for your help!

FTTH is the internet connection I want to grab subscription of ASAP. Me too; hoping to hear from someone :).

STC doesn't have any competitors in FTTH. Only *they* can deploy fiber-optics cables and connections.

No comparable fast connection so far. It's faster than the upcoming 4G even.

Yep, I really don't think it necessary to get a satellite connection in Saudi. Why spend 4x cost on a connection that I wouldn't be counting on?

Mobily also offer a fibre optic Internet service. Their top package is even faster than STC's, at 200 Mbps download.

One benefit of the STC service, commercially known as Verve, is that it can come with Invision, which provides the opportunity of selecting Al Jazeera and Abu Dhabi sports channels, allowing one to watch the English Premier League and European Championship football.

If somebody knows the prices of the different STC Verve packages, I would be grateful if you could post them.

Thank you!

I eventually found information about the STC FTTH Verve service here:

I don't know whether it is an official STC site or not. It seems to be 499 riyals for 100 Mbps unlimited download or 40 Mbps downloads and unlimited usage for 299 riyals.

Dont worry. M3com.com is official part of STC. You can count on contents published there :)

I tried to use the STC website to work out if FTTH is available in this location. It is all in arabic. I got this. Does it mean the service is available? Thank you!

It says:
The work on FTTH is in progress at your location.

The button is titled: 'Let me know when it gets available'

How can I retrieve the username and password for ip address of FTTH modem

go to their online portal, they have an option there to retrieve username and password, usually they would send it to the number that you used while subscribing.

I think the FTTH connection currently is location specific, I don't think they have laid fibre optics line all over Riyadh till now. As after a long duration digup near my house, I saw a fibre optics written in big letters on a new manhole cover

I already have the username and password for the Internet Connection... but I dont have the username and password for the IP address of the modem. This Ip address connects to the modem settings page.

Here is the next screen that STC Verve Fibre Optic want to ask so that you can get an alert for when it is available in your area.

Please tell me what it all means in English.

Thank you! :)

It says, they will inform you when the service is available at your site.

Choose the speed that you are interested, 4, 20, 40 200

NAME
MOBILE
LANDLINE NO.
EMAIL

Thank you so much for your translation. Here is the last dialogue they provide. Could you help tell me what it means in English again, please.

By the way, the mobily elife website is much better. They do all this in English and the site is faster.

Last point, from checking this out, it looks like STC Verve plan on having 200 Mbps, just like Mobily :) No prices for 200 Mbps on their website yet though.

Just saying Thanks :)

over wifi with ftth

Wow! That is a surprisingly slow connection, considering you have FTTH. (You lucky thing!)

What do you think is causing the bottleneck in your speed, Freshlikesushi?

Can you try the test again with a wired connection?

no, i dont do wired.

bottleneck? its saudi arabia.

just now same conditions

That was a remarkable improvement. But still, with FTTH, one would expect even better results.

Your ping was good on both occasions. That is important for video-conferencing and on-line gaming.

It would be good to hear your conclusions, if you do some detective work on solving the issue.

im able to stream netflix, and play XBOX live with no problem most of the time.  Until i cant, ill leave it be

It means "Service is not available here", I am told.

Well, based on my experience with STC... The speed they tell you is generally not always what you get. I have DSL Broadband connection of 40MB (at least that's what i was told). This package is known as Jood 3 and yet im getting max speed of 20-21MB download and 1MB upload. I would kind of consider this false advertising, but hey ...what can i do.... however I found that this speed is decent enough for me downloading torrents at 2-3 megabytes (not bits!) which i beleive is pretty fast.

I have a friend who just got FTTH and his speed is almost the same except his Ping is generally below 15ms whereas for it varies from 10-40ms.  I personally haven't tried his internet but i am guessing its a little faster than mine.

For those who want to get FFTH, don't expect true fiber optics speed here in Saudi as most areas have no been equipped with the proper STC Box for the area that can support that kind of speed. Or if it does it probably just distributes the speed between houses.

What kind of prices do they have for the FTTH in Riyadh anyway?
Apparently it's unavailable in my area and I was willing to try it for online gaming.

What are my other options???

Now i am work in mobily as technician.

For STC FTTH Fibre Optic Broadband Internet in which I'm using now is to low.
Pls. send me some info, and payment for more better speed...
