Is the Postal service reliable In Ecuador? Around Ecuador and also from the US? We are considering moving to Cuenca.

The postal service is much less reliable than in the first world. Almost any important correspondence (bank statements etc) is moved by couriers, local(Servientrega) and international (Fedex, DHL). I send sometimes letters to US by local post, all reached their destination so far, but it takes about 2 weeks, they are non traceable, and if something happens, it is just a loss without any compensation and/or explanation. Couriers work well, up to the first world standards.

Its different in Ecuador, people dont use the post office so much, instead they use other services like what I wrote about in this full blog post recently, ecuadorrealestate.org/send-receive-mail-in-ecuador/ Dom
