Yes, visa always required and often obtained on the causeway immigration but that depends on the profession on your Iqama.

Thats 450Km one way 900 return! Bahrain have with the troubles made it so you can only get a visa in advace for some travelers. The good news is that at 0.45 SAR per litre so in a 4x4 doing 16.5 Ltr / 100km it will only cost 25 SAR. Bargin

@alliecat: yes i was also wondering nobody has responded on this question. I am also coming from a muslim country Pakistan and there are also no discos, clubs, wineshop etc here. BUT u can have private parties with all the above with no issue. Is there such a thing like private parties for normal expatriates like us or it is only for royals.

You can have parties but a lot depends on where you live.  If it's a compound, you can pretty much do what you want. 

If, however, you live in an apartment it can be tricky if you have unrelated males/females together.  Such parties can be 'raided' and everybody arrested!  How often this happens, I don't know--just telling you that it can.

If you want to party with married couples, however, all is safe!

Its reality ,life in Riyadh is malls and restaurants,frankly nothing else to do,the most boring place and least entertaining place on earth,the busier you are at work the less bored you are,welcome to the exciting city of Riyadh,and enjoy it!!!!!!!!hope you will have a nice and easy transition to the exciting city.

You might investigate a VPN as well because some of what you want to watch maybe blocked for teritorial issues. I have not found HBO yet, however that's not to say you can't get it. OSN provide the main movie channels.

Just being OFF topic, are there F1 cafe or restaurants, where you can see the live F1 action ???
