Ayaan - when you enter Turkey as a tourist, you are required to get a tourist visa (the cost varies on where you are coming from).  For most countries this is good for 90 days, but it looks like this may be different for India - may want to check with your consulate.

If you want something longer, you will need a resident permit.

Hey Aly

Thanks for your reply. Only last day I was reading about a change in Tourist visa rules some 90 day in 90 day out. What my question is will i be able to get it renewed on the day 91 .
Also do you have a residency permit in Turkey . Any idea what it takes to get one? How much account balance do i need to show in terms of USD ?

Thanks !

Hi,

You might want to check the following link and information below. Things can change yearly so it's best to check the official page.

Where you need to go:

The "Foreign Police Bureau" responsible for the area where you live, normally in the capital city of the province where you are living or want to live.

What you need:

Residency permit request forms, filled out, including your personal information, sources of income, name of mother and father, etc... and a reason why you want to stay in Turkey. You have to get the form from the Foreign Police Bureau.

Six photos, passport size.
Proof that you have 2,000 Euros, or equivalent in Turkish Lira, in a Turkish bank. This can be shown by presenting your Turkish bank deposit book to the foreign police. This was increased from 2,000 Turkish Lira in 2009 (that is, now it's Euros and NOT Turkish Lira). You will also need copies of the bank book showing your personal information and your current balance. You can deposit the money before your application, and then withdraw it afterward.

Your apartment or villa rental contract or your tapu (property title deed), with a copy of same.
Your current residence permit (if you're requesting an extension) and a copy of the identifying information and the page showing your current address.
Your passport, with a copy of your passport's identifying information and current visa and entry stamp.

638 Turkish Lira for a one-year residence visa.
90 Turkish Lira for the processing fee.

What Happens Next

You'll be given a rather small piece of paper, with a number, which has a signature of a person at the Foreign Police Bureau. You'll present that if you're challenged by the authorities about your presence in Turkey. Then after seven days, or however long the representative at the Foreign Police Bureau tells you, go back to the Foreign Police Bureau and pick up your new, or renewed, residence permit.

I hope that helps.

The forms have to be typed and not handwritten. You can fill-in and print the form here http://yabancilar.ie...orm%20excel.xls

The apprpriate government website can be found HERE You can select English if you need it

Hi Caterinamh

Thanks for such a detailed and informative reply. I guess its lots of paperwrok needed and may I have the liberty to please ask you another optimistic question ?

What are the chances of getting a residency permit if all papers are submitted correctly ?

I will and my bother you again with more questions so plz do bare with me as I want to see Turkey and live there very badly ;).
And if i made it i will invite you for a cup of coffee . Definitely yes :)

Thanks again!

Well, I'm not a specialist in the law but I would think if you can fulfill all the requirements you should be fine.

Thanks again. I am very pleased to see you take time to reply my queries. its simply awesome and equally surprising :)

Cheers!

Hey there!

Not to burst your bubble but I would like to give you a tip before having your hopes high.

I've been through this loop hole for quite a while and I can tell you that its very bureaucratic and discriminative there (at the Emniyet where you apply for your permit).

Note: All this is unofficial and undocumented. There is no written rule or law that says so.

There people are classified into class A or B citizens (not sure if there's C). Class A are people of nationalities like USA, Canada, Australia, Europe, etc. I think you get the point. I think that you, being from India are classified as Class B (like me). Which means that you cannot get a residency permit.
I tried, a couple of times, only to be rejected in the end because of that reason.

What people usually do is a visa run, in which they exit the country around when their touristic visa ends, and then enter again. However, there is a new law (effective Feb 2012) that will not allow people to so. It has been published in the official paper (http://www.resmigazete.gov.tr/eskiler/2 … 1024-9.htm). They had this same law before a couple of times but they haven't really applied it. It seems more serious this time though.

I hope this helped but if I can do more then send me a PM. Best way is to just go there and ask, if you can find someone who speaks English there.

Good luck!

Came across this as well, which basically says what I mentioned about the visa runs

hey Khalil

Thanks for the insights into the process of getting a residency permit in Turkey. yeah we are in Class B and who knows maybe in Class C ;)

I am not coming until Mar-Apr 2012 and i will remain in touch with you. i wonder will it be called a geographic discrimination for making such Classes. I wonder why its so and i fail to understand the logic when I see Google has got 5 VPs from India and even Obama Administration has many Indians as secretaries .

Anyways thank you again for the reply.

Ayaan ..u said you are a software developer...which platform do you work on??

Hi,
As the law has been changed for B group countries in June of 2011.
You can get residence permit only for 6 month one time per calendar year.
As Indian citizen you can get 1 month visa at the border if you have Shengen or US visa http://www.mfa.gov.tr/visa-information- … rs.en.mfa, after entrance you need to set up online (only) appointment at the immigration police http://yabancilar.iem.gov.tr/
then you need to show up at the immigration police with following docs
1.4 passport-size photos
2.Your passport. Photocopies of the following pages of your passport: the page bearing your photo, the page stamped at your last entry, the page where the validity and expiry dates are marked.
3.A bank statement or a currency exchange slip testifying to an asset in the amount of $ 500 for each month. (Here is the problem, banks don't open bank account without residence permit or address registration, so exchange slip from Exchange office is fine)
4.If the foreigner stays in a rented flat, the contract approved by notary must be declared.
Then you pay for a residence book about 150 TL and visa fee for 6 month 50 USD for 6 month at the tax office. (Police officer will give you details)
That's it, rejection is very rare only in the case if your papers are not in full or your had broke visa regime before, even though if your papers are not all ready they would ask you to provide additional docs.
Even though the date of the appointment could be 1 month later of your visa expiration it is ok, your residence permit would be valid from the day of online application for your residence permit. It is not good if you miss your appointment time.

Good luck.

hi,, something related to this topic.. I'm working here in Turkey I have my residence permit here, can I get my wife here to stay with me as my dependent while I'm here in Turkey. can she apply tourist visa and then have his residence permit can she stay here for more 1 year? thanks! hope you can also hep me..

Hi,

She can enter with tourist visa and then apply for residence permit. Her residence permit will be valid till same date as yours.

Reason for Application: SPOUSES OF PERSONS HOLDING A RESIDENCE PERMIT
Necessary Documents
4 passport-size photos
Passport
Photocopies of the following pages of passport: the page bearing her photo, the page stamped at her last entry, the page where the validity and expiry dates are marked
The original of the spouse's residence permit, and photocopies of all the pages bearing any entry
For the first application, the original notarized translation of the marriage certificate is needed. For extention, the notarized copy of the certificate will be enough.

Hi,

I am an Indian and currently in Turkey (Istanbul) on a business visa which is valid till May 2013 and I can stay here for 30 days max each time. I do not have a resident permit, so I fly out to some other country every 4 weeks for the weekend and come back to Turkey.

I want to bring my wife and would prefer her to stay here for around 4-5 months. I checked with the Turkish Consulate in India and they mentioned that only 1 month Tourist Visa is provided. Is there a way I can extend her Tourist Visa? Also, even if she goes out of the country, what's the general timeline in which a new visa can be obtained?

Thanks in Advance,

Thank you very much. It's a big help for us!

Hi ,

Am a Nigerian living in dubai.....will be leaving dubai soon and i am considering going to Turkey on a 3 months tourist visa with a friend, not sure how long i can stay with the 3 months visa as many agents still confuse me its for 6 months...if i enjoy my stay i would love to extend it, apply to a school and work part time...... but am getting all confused here as its rumored that extending a tourist visa to a resident visa is as difficult as taking a nun to bed...lol..

Would really appreciate feed backs...
Thanks ...

Getting residency is definitely difficult. I would suggest you contact your home country embassy asap in order to get the process started.

Thanks.....
