Hello!

Hi Everyone!

I'm new to the board. My hubby and I are considering a temporary move to France. We've been looking near Toulouse, specifically Quillan. I've been researching information in the area and so far we really like what we see.

Neither of us speak French (yet) but plans are in place to overcome that problem. Has anyone ever moved to France without speaking French at all? If so, did you find it difficult to pick up the language? Do you recommend learning at least the basics first?

I work for a company that allows me to work from home. Does anyone know if I'd be able to continue working while on a long-stay visa?

Thanks in advance for all your help and I look forward to learning more about France!

Hey,

I moved here like 2 months ago without knowing a single word of french! (apart from 'bonjour' ofcourse lol ) but I am doing an internship(which means I will be here just for a year) with Airbus where the official language is english so I have not faced any major problems..HOWEVER I will be honest,it is a big barrier when you are out, signing documents, socialising, shopping..everything is in french..which can make life difficult..

the good thing is toulouse has lot of expats and international students who speak english often..and people do help you if you cant speak french in shops..best language is the body language! lol

So if you are coming for good, I personally think you should learn it or atleast know basics to have a conversation going..but if it is for short term basis you will manage..

My cousin recently moved to paris from canada too without knowing french and so far she has been okay but then again..thats PARIS!
