Buying property in Kenya

Hi,

can a foreigner buy property in Kenya?

If so, is it complicated? What is the process of purchasing a property in Kenya?

Any tips for buying property, such as a check-list of items to verify ?

Thanks in advance for participating!

Hi,  I have done a few posts on this subject, in answer to queries from other members.  Briefly; foreigners can buy 'commercial class' land and residential properties, but not agricultural land unless the individual is a partner in a company with a majority Kenyan partnership.  iam not sure whether the new constitution affects this.

the way to go is to get a local partner, good luck

Dear Christine,

A number of our clients are from abroad, and have bought various Apartments, Houses and Offices from ourselves.
The procedure is simple, the client has a look at the property plan, description etc, and reserves a particular unit. An offer letter is then prepared and emailed to the client. Once the letter is signed, sent back to us and payment is recieved, A sale agreement is prepared by our advocates and given to the clients advocates. The client signs this and once project is complete, pays the balance amount.

Yes a foreigner can buy property in Kenya.
View the property first with a survayor, check it on a map got from survey of Kenya, lodge a search,if its ok,involve a lawyer in the transaction
