Successful job interview in Ethiopia

Hi,

passing a job interview in Ethiopia can be a stressful moment, especially you are not familiar with the cultural and professional codes of the country.

How to successfully pass a job interview in Ethiopia ?

What happens during the interview ?

What are the do's and don'ts during a job interview in Ethiopia : what to say or not, what to wear, how to behave ?

Thank you in advance for sharing your experience with us !

It would be nice if someone would answer Julie on her questions concerning job interview etiquette in Ethiopia pls :)

Do's
1) Tell me about yourself- this is like a cliche everywhere. Be prepared to elaborate about your academic and professional life, from your elementary school to your last employer
2) Elaborate, even the simple technical stuff- Ethiopian are generally culturally shy. Marketing skills are in short supply. So capitalize on your presentation skills. But use formal words.
3) Dressing Code, Business Formal. Business suits for moth sexes recommended. Long hairs for males are a sign of being hippy and thus not entertained.
4) If you are an expat, your remunerations are expected to be higher. Be prepared to justify that by informing them how the company will benefit despite higher costs.
5) Do not forget about team playing. your replies about success should always stress on the importance of synergy and team work.
6) Tell the opportunities available to companies- Ethiopia is currently among the top 5 fastest growing nations in the planet. Indicate that and relate it to the vast opportunities for the growth of the company.
7) Talk about the opportunities in the difficulties - as is the case with any developing countries, many facilities are underdeveloped. Tell them that is is more of an opportunity - in participating in providing the services and products- than it is a difficulty.
8) Appreciate the discipline and moral standards of the local labor, while also indicating that there are best practices to learn from the developed/other developing nations

Dont's
1) Avoid the "I-know-all-more -than-many-locals" syndrome
2) Do not complain about things you miss in your home country/elsewhere
3)Try to avoid the impression on the potential employer that would make them think that u are too expensive to hire.
4) While getting into the interview room, do not seat on the chair until you are told to do so.
