Does anyone have any first hand knowledge on getting a tourist visa to get into Libya for a short time, just to get things left behind? My husband and I are American, and are no longer with my husbands company, but would like to return to gather our belongings. I'm having trouble figuring out the visa situation though. We have expired business visas, but that's it. I can't imagine that will get us very far

If you have contacts in your husband's ex-employer in Libya, they can arrange a business visa (on arrival) from Libya for you to visit Tripoli and arrange to ship your belongings.
Other option is to wait another 4-5 weeks till the Libyan embassies become operational and get a visit visa from the embassy locally.
