Child care in Santiago

Hi,

when settling in a new country, working parents are mostly concerned about finding child care services for their children.

What can you share with us about the child care system in Santiago ?

How much is daycare in Santiago?

Is the staff qualified at these daycare centers?

What are the usual opening hours?

Do they provide other services at the daycare center?

Any daycare center in Santiago you would like to recommend to other expats? What makes them special?

Thank you for participating! :)

Have you found a daycare yet in Santiago?

Daycare is great in Santiago. There are many jardines infantiles all around the city, some Spanish speaking, some English speaking and everyone thinks theirs is the best jardin! you will have no problem at all finding one that suits your child(ren). Prices will vary depending on the jardin so I will use my son's as an example. He goes to jardin from 8am to 1pm 3 days a week and from 8am to 5.30 two days a week and we pay $200.000clp a month. He is almost 4 and he has been going for nearly 3yrs now and speaks spanish fluently. they do loads of activites with the children, get the parents involved, they have special events every so often, itŽs lovely. All the staff at jardines are qualified at different levels, you have parvularia in charge of the class, a tecnico de parvulos as "second in command" maybe and a classroom assistant. How many in each class will depend on the jardin. Most jardines open from 7.30am and close around 6.30pm maybe later, but not much. Also, try the facebook page "english-speaking moms living in santiago, chile" where you will get loads of recommendations for a jardin, although it's best to wait until you know where you will be living. Good luck!

Thanks for your contribution home angels!
