Child care in Helsinki

Hi,

when settling in a new country, working parents are mostly concerned about finding child care services for their children.

What can you share with us about the child care system in Helsinki ?

How much is daycare in Helsinki?

Is the staff qualified at these daycare centers?

What are the usual opening hours?

Do they provide other services at the daycare center?

Any daycare center in Helsinki you would like to recommend to other expats? What makes them special?

Thank you for participating! :)

Our oldest daughter goes to Kaivopuisto English Kindergarten, in South Helsinki on Neytsipolku. It's a Montessori program and they make organic lunch and snacks on the premises, which is great. Nick Alavarez (British) is a very committed school director, and the other teaching staff speak very good English.
I like the atmosphere and the children are really happy and cheerful.
The website may still be w.i.p. but you can find them on Facebook or on the official Hel.fi pages in the private daycare listing (though there is KELA funding available).

In addition for the parents, there's a bit of community building with the regular 'cheese & wine' evenings. It's an informal way to get to meet other parents and talk about the kids, the school and any questions or concerns.

Hi sunlovemama,

Thank you for this information. :)
