Moving 70lb dog to costa rica NEED HELP ASAP

Hi I have been looking for an affordable way to get my dog to costa rica and the easiest, most simple option is to hire a pet traveler but I can't afford it.

How can I do this on my own? what all do I need to bring my dog to costa rica? what will the cost look like?

So far I understand I need a broker, and vet paperwork but the part that has me lost is all the legal papers for importing a pet

If someone could give me AS DETAILED INFO AS POSSIBLE on what exactly I need to do I would SOOO much appreciate it.

I am leaving in 2 weeks and I'd really like to bring my pup!

Thanks

P.S. (looking to spend less than $2000 flight included)

you need a health certificate and it has to be authenticated by the USDA a rabies shot too all needs to be current w/in 30 days i dont care what anybody else tells you

most of the border agents dont even know what you need.

PetsMart has USDA approved vets that have the forms and can do the exam but u still need to send that paperwork off to the nearest USDA office in your area.you can drive it to an office if you are running out of time but it may not be ready till the next day.

if you are flying the airlines may have their own set of criteria as well you do not need a broker mucho plata

make sure you have booked a flight that arrives on a weekday non holiday not at night or on a weekend

Hi- my family is moving in January 2013 to Costa Rica for 6 months.  We planned on bringing our large breed dog(95lbs).  All the major airlines will not transport our dog in cargo because she is either too heavy (kennel weight included) or too tall to fit in their required kennel sizes (700 series).  We are heartbroken!  Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to ship our xlarge dog from Chicago to Costa Rica?
Thank you-

there aren't any solutions to this problem that aren't really expensive.  we have two such dogs and have researched this for quite a while.  if you find a way around the problem, be sure and post it because there are lots of us facing the same issue.
