Any tips on what to do to have fun? The city looks very quiet .

Hi All,

I have just got in Joburg, after living six years in London, being originally from Brasil.

Any tips on what to do to have fun? The city looks very quiet :)

If you wanna meet up and have some drinks, give me a shout.

A new topic has been created on the Johannesburg forum for better visibility!

Harmonie.:)

I would advise you to leave Joburg and come to Cape Town instead:-)

Hi Fabio

There is a lot of fun activities in Johannesburg.  Visit Soweto for a township experience,  and bungee jump at the Soweto towers.  If you have kids they will enjoy Gold Reef City, and for a classy adult outing Monte Casino, Sandton or Rosebank is the ideal place.
You must also take a ride on the gautrain, because it is faster, safer and goes past most southernsun.com/Hotels/Montecasino.

I also agree with Harmonie, Cape Town is a nice place to visit.  I was there recently and I enjoyed myself.  I went to the Aquarium at the V&A Waterfront, Table Mountain and Cape Point. I have attached photos I took at the Aquarium and Cape Point.

Visit chinatown or china mart. Also, there are a lot of museums here too and for great chinese food visit kong sing in bedford centre, bedfordview. They have a big food selection, they are not expensive and the service and food is great. Also some eqeustrian centres have horseriding picnics.for a cuiet night at home invite your friends or neighbors for a theme night dinner for example Asia.cook asian food, dress in asian clothing. All ingredients can be baught in the chinatown in cyreldine, they also sell asian cutlery. Or download anime and watch that at night. If you're a fan of computer games host a LAN party at your house. Visit gold reef city.

hey
I have just moved here from london too - its more difficult to find out about going out but there are a good few places but often you need to drive which is the issue! anyway let me know if you have found out anything - would be good to meet a few expats.

hi

if you like have drinks - fourways cedar square

movie, shopping - sandton city

outdoor - Hartbeespoort, Vaal Dam, Porchestroom

coffee with view -  West Cliff Hotel

small walking - bedfordview Gillooly's

I hope you find fun in one of those

It really depends on what you like doing:
What is your taste in music?
What kind of food do you like?
Do you want to dance or sit and chill?
Are you into extreme sports activities?
Adrenaline Junkie?
Etc etc. Let is know your interests and we can help you with that...
You might find that someone might suggest "High Tea" at the Saxon Hotel, when what you really want is a Strong Cocktail at Randlords Bar in Braamfontein.

Judging by the fact that you are from London

I have written a blog post about what to do around Joburg, in case you're interested: http://joburgexpat.blogspot.com/2011/04 … burg.html. It's more targeted to families with kids but many of these activities are fun for anyone.

Fabio,

Are you still using this forum?

I have just arrived in Jo'burg and wondered what you have learnt about Jo'burg since you got here yourself?

Any hints/tips etc....?

Also, you mentioned you were in the UK for a few years, did you work whilst over there? I ask because I am working here as a financial advisor and one of the many things I can help with is transferring pensions out of the UK into a tax efficient environment. Did you set up or have a private/company pension whilst out there that is sitting there doing nothing at the moment? If so,drop me a line and I could help you move it offshore - No obligations, no charges, just advice :-)
