Just to introduce myself..

Hello to everybody,
I'm just registered here and I hope to find good friends.
I'm italian but I live in Milan only since last january and actually I found so hurd to meet some friendly people here.
This summer I went to US/California for two weeks and I discovered there a very different world with gorgeuse easy-going people..and now I'm so upset 'cause I miss them so much..and also I would like to go on speaking english language, which I love so much but I definitely need to improve it!!
That's why I though to reach this forum: I hope to meet some people to jaw with and maybe become good friends.

Ciao ciao
Stefy M

Hey Stefy,

Welcome.  I am Australian and moved to Milan in October last year....well I am actually a few kilometers outside Milan.

I have visited the US a couple of times, it's a nice country and very different to European countries and is similar to Australia in a lot of ways.  I am finding Italy very interesting and find the people friendly but miss home occasionally.

Why did you move to Milan?

Hi rainman8

I moved to Milano because I accepted a new challenge changing my job after 8 years...and I'm so happy to have done it 'cause I like much more my current one in a more international company that allow me to travel more and speak more english.

Frankly, I have to admit that I worked very hard in the last months and so maybe it's also my fault if I hadn't do many friendships! But anyway I'm glad to share this forum and this international space;)

I forgot to ask you why did you move to Italy..sorry, I'm still confused and tired for the jat-lag and last two nights on the planes I sleep only very few hours!

I met my current girlfriend, who is Italian,  in Australia and decided to make the move.  I am surprised at how hot it gets in Italy!!! troppo caldo!!!  :)

We are going back to Australia for a month soon and I am looking forward to that.  It will be strange hearing people speak english again...  I am used to having to concentrate and listen very closly to what people are saying so I can understand them here in Italy.  My Italian still isn't very good :(

Your italian can't be worse than my english;)
Yeah I agree about the hot weather...too much...it's impossible to live!! My dog is desperate too!!
I came back yesterday from California and there there was a perfect weather: not too cold and not too hot...I'd like to move there again...now!!
When are you going to Australia with your gf? I wish you a good vacation:)It's a nice story to have come here for love...really compliments, it's comfortable to know that there's still somebody who take care of feelings (lately it doesn't happen often anymore!)

We are going in 2 weeks to ironically cold whether. Everyone assumes Australia is always hot but it can get pretty cold in some parts in Winter.

Did you choose California for a holiday because you have family/friends there or it was just a place you always wanted to go?  I went to Anaheim when I was child to see Disneyland and a baseball game (I was fascinated with the Dodges baseball team back then).  I also saw San Diego,  San Francisco and Alcatraz.  I'll have to go back some day but the world is so big and I have so many more places I would also like to visit.

I attended an english course and I chose Santa Barbara thinking it was a good place where spend summer...but there was no summere in SB!!! Although the "cold" weather I loved that place and I spent gorgeous time thank to special people I met there:) I love California, I love their view of life, people so friendly and easy going...and beautiful places like Santa Barbara, Carpinteria, Ventura, San Francisco and so on!!! I swear I'd live there!!

And what is the place you loved most of all?? And what the one do you want to visit next time?

I'd like to go see the Northern lights actually.  Take a train in Norway up north.  I have a fascination for snow and freezing whether and I think a trip like this would cure me. :)

The place I loved most of all in my travels was Raratonga in the Cook Islands but I think it has become a lot more commercialised now.  When I went it was like an undiscovered Island with only a few locals but I hear they have a few large hotels there now.  I'll have to find another deserted tropical Island to relax. :)

You obviously have your favourite as California?  What do you mean there was no summer in Santa Barbara?  Was it really cold there?

Rainman i also met my boyfriend who is italian while we studied abroad in Australia! And now i moved here with him, you are right its veryyyyy hot! We both miss OZ though so maybe in a year we will go back. How are you liking it here?

Hey Crparri,

Wow,  it makes me feel good that there are others in the same situation as me.  I miss Australia sometimes but I am finding Italy a nice place.

Occasionally I think about moving back to the great whether and beaches of Sydney and miss my family but then there were also some bad points like how expensive everything was getting,  especially food and rent/property. I suppose its like the old saying goes "the grass is always greener on the other side." :)  Italy is a lot different to Australia though and eventually we may move back.  I think there is a lot more opportunity in Australia.

I really have to learn Italian which I am finding difficult.  I am not a lazy person by nature,  I am usually full of energy,  but I find learning another language quite boring. :(

Are you going back to Oz in a year to live or just for a holiday?  Do you know Italian?  How are you finding it in Italy?

Ciao and all the best

Rainmain,

I went to school in Sydney and absolutely loved it! I miss the weather and beaches too although surprisingly it gets reallllly cold in the winter! Although living there is so expensive it definitely has more opportunity than Italy. It's funny because most italians leave italy to go to Australia and you did the opposite! Same for me though, I'm American and my boyfriend's friends cant believe i moved here.

I would go back to Oz for maybe grad school, although it is really expensive so I have to start saving. I can't say at all that I'm fluent in Italian. It really isn't easy and also at times so frustrating to learn a new language. I can have a basic conversation but when italians are talking their full speed i get completely lost and at times im like ok forget it! But ive only been here for 3 months and im doing well so im sure you'll improve too if you try!

I'm liking italy but of course at times i miss home and my family and friends and language but its a good experience and i wont be here that long

crparri, rainman ciao,

Hey Stefy,

I would love to meet up with you! I'm from California and just moved here the other day. Where did you travel in the US? I miss California already! But I love it here too. We should share stories about California. Maybe I can help you with your English and you can help me with Italian :)
