About Fiji

The Republic of Fiji is an archipelago of 332 islands (110 of them inhabited) in the South Pacific Ocean. Stretching for over 18,274 km2, the islands are inhabited by iTaukei (the indigenous Fijians), Indians, Rotumans, and other ethnic groups. English, Fijian, and Indian are the three official languages, and the Fijian Dollar (FJD) is the official currency.

Suva is the capital of the Republic of Fiji while other big cities include Nadi, Taveuni, Labasa, and Levuka. Fiji's economy is based primarily on tourism. The honeymoon capital of the world is well loved by travellers of all ages for its exceptional natural beauty and the majestic coral reefs making it one of the best diving spots in the world. The islands have all the facilities needed for a relaxing vacation, from high-end resorts to more budget options, and a prime choice of things to see and do.

If you are in Fiji, you will find no shortage of activities to indulge in, from relaxing on the beach, snorkelling and jet skiing to discovering the cultural and historical monuments and encountering the rich flora and fauna of the region. If you want to do some island hopping, there are several sea cruise companies in the region that offer transportation between islands. Alternatively, you can hop on a seaplane.

Residents of most countries do not require a visa to travel to Fiji and can stay for up to 40 days, while other foreign nationals will need to apply for a visa before their travels.

Due to the region's occasionally turbulent political situation, the expat population is not very high. Limited employment opportunities and the difficult process of getting a work permit are also to be considered before deciding on a long-term move to the island.
