With a population of 269,000, Aarhus is Denmark’s second largest city. It is located on the east coast of Jutland. Though its history goes back to the Viking Age, Aarhus maintains a young and dynamic vibe, thanks in part to the highly ranked Aarhus University and its 45,000 students. It also boasts a vibrant tourism, music, arts, and culture scene and was voted one of the European Capital of Culture cities of 2017.

Aarhus's economy

Aarhus is home to Denmark’s largest port—and one of northern Europe’s largest ports— making the city an important import/export center. Several large companies such as Arla Foods, Vestas, and Jysk have headquarters in the city, and the region is also a big agricultural producer. Thanks to this kind of diversity as well as a modern infrastructure and developed economy, Aarhus has been attracting foreign professionals for years.

Career prospects

Knowledge and service based jobs dominate the job market in Aarhus. This means that most job opportunities will be found in healthcare and social services, trade, education, consulting, research, industry, and telecommunications.
