Saxophone player Olaf Boelsen and guitarist Jörg Pfeil are back in Germany after 10 years of living in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, returning with a lot of Ethio-Jazz experience.
With the band Jazzmaris they are presenting Ethiopian sound at it's best: music of Mulatu Astatke, the godfather of Ethio-Jazz, songs of the singers Mahmoud Ahmed, Telahun Gessesse and Girma Beyene and own compositions.
Supported by the violin player Conrad Kausch, their new trio is developing sensitive to explosive Ethio-Jazz, connecting Ethiopian sounds and improvisation.
The band name Jazzmaris combines jazz and asmaris, the name of the traditional musicians of Ethiopia. They are a vital part of music life in Addis Ababa, collaborating in plenty of projects with the local and international jazz scene.
